プロフィール
チューバ奏者、指揮者。Buffet Crampon Besson & B&SおよびMercer & Barker社公認アーティスト。
指揮者として、Nexus Brass Band、Riverside British Brass、Immortal Brass Eternallyの常任指揮者を務める。また、河野企画代表として演奏会・講習会の企画運営を行うほか、東京ブラスバンド祭ではマスバンド総括を担当している。
洗足学園音楽大学卒業後、イギリスへ渡り、Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama（PGDip）を修了。在学中にはTongwynlais Temperance BandのメンバーとしてScottish Open Championship優勝を経験。その後、当時世界ランキング1位のCory Bandに所属し、Welsh Regional、Brass in Concert、European Brass Band Championshipsで優勝。大学院では、優れたソロリサイタルの成果が認められ、Brian Gilbert賞を2年連続で受賞した。
帰国後は国内外でソリスト・指揮者として活動。海外バンドの日本ツアーへの客演をはじめ、吹奏楽・ブラスバンドの指導、コンクール審査、テレビ番組やアニメ作品のレコーディング、オーケストラやアーティストのサポートなど、幅広い分野で演奏活動を展開している。
2020年には、コロナ禍で活動機会を失った子どもたちや音楽家を支援するクラウドファンディングを実施し、世界約125名から130万円を超える支援を集めた。
2026年には、英国を代表するブラスバンド指揮者・教育者フィリップ・ハーパー氏を招聘し、「ブラスバンドキャンプ in 上尾」を企画・開催。日本国内に加え、海外からも参加者を迎え、65名が参加する国際的なブラスバンド教育イベントを実現した。
指揮者としては、2024年にImmortal Brass Eternallyを率いてNew Zealand National Brass Band Championships（A Grade）で第4位を獲得。さらに2026年には、オランダ・ケルクラーデで開催された**World Music Contest（WMC）**ブラスバンド最上級クラスであるコンサート部門において、アジア圏のバンドとして史上初の出場を果たし、「Gold」を受賞。日本のブラスバンド史に新たな一歩を刻んだ。
現在は演奏活動と並行して、ミュージックエイト「エムハチポータル」にて『金管バンドナビ』を連載。また、日本ブラスバンド指導者協会理事を務める。
これまでにチューバを荻野晋、八尾健介、佐藤潔、Nigel Seamanの各氏に、ブラスバンド指導法をRobert Childs氏に師事。
中学校・高等学校教諭一種免許状（音楽）、NPO法人総合福祉カウンセリングセンター認定基礎心理カウンセラー資格を有する。
Biography
Kazuyuki Kouno is a Japanese tuba player and brass band conductor. He is an official artist for Buffet Crampon Besson & B&S and Mercer & Barker.
He is Resident Conductor of Nexus Brass Band, Riverside British Brass and Immortal Brass Eternally. He is also the director of Kouno Project, organising concerts and educational events, and serves as the music director for the Tokyo Brass Band Festival.
After graduating from Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, he moved to the UK to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, where he completed a Postgraduate Diploma. During his studies, he won the Scottish Open with Tongwynlais Temperance Band as Bb Bass Player before joining Cory Band, then ranked No.1 in the world. With Cory Band as Eb Bass Player, he won the Welsh Regional, Brass in Concert and the European Brass Band Championships. He also received the Brian Gilbert Award for two consecutive years in recognition of his solo recital performances.
Since returning to Japan, he has been active as both a soloist and conductor. He has appeared as a guest with overseas brass bands on their Japan tours, and regularly works as a performer, conductor, adjudicator and educator throughout Japan. His recording work includes television programmes, anime soundtracks, orchestras and popular artists.
In 2020, he organised a crowdfunding project to support young musicians and music students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, receiving more than ¥1.3 million in support from around 125 people across the world.
In 2026, he organised the inaugural Brass Band Camp in Ageo, inviting renowned British brass band conductor and educator Philip Harper to Japan. The camp brought together 65 participants from Japan and Hong Kong, creating an international brass band educational event in Japan.
As a conductor, he led Immortal Brass Eternally to 4th place in the A Grade at the 2024 New Zealand National Brass Band Championships. In 2026, he led the band to become the first Asian brass band to compete in the Concert Division of the World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade. The band was awarded Gold, marking an important milestone for Japanese brass banding.
Alongside his performing career, he writes a regular brass band column for M8 Portal and serves as a board member of the Japan Brass Band Directors Association.
He studied tuba with Susumu Ogino, Kensuke Yao, Kiyoshi Sato and Nigel Seaman, and brass band studies with Robert Childs.
